Different Work Styles… Same Workplace

There’s something I’ve been paying attention to lately.

Not in a judgmental way… just noticing.

People don’t work the same.

Some people come in, do what’s required, and that’s it.

They move steady, they don’t overextend, and when their work is done… they’re done.

And then there are others…

The ones who see everything.

The ones who pick up the slack without being asked.

The ones who answer the phone, respond to the message, help the coworker, fix the issue… all in the same breath.

They don’t always stop to ask,

“Is this mine to do?”

They just do it.

And for a long time, I thought one way was better than the other.

Now I’m not so sure.

Because here’s the truth…

Both styles exist for a reason.

The steady worker knows how to pace themselves.

They understand boundaries, whether they say it out loud or not.

They protect their energy in a way that keeps them consistent.

The high-capacity worker?

They keep things from falling apart.

They see gaps before they become problems.

They carry more than their share because they know they can.

But here’s where it gets real…

Just because you can carry more…

doesn’t always mean you should.

And just because someone doesn’t move like you…

doesn’t mean they’re wrong.

It just means they’re different.

Workplaces are made up of all kinds of people:

The ones who lead without a title

The ones who stay in their lane

The ones who step in

And the ones who step back

The challenge isn’t figuring out who’s better.

It’s learning how to work without resentment.

Without feeling like:

“I’m doing more”

or

“They’re not doing enough”

Because that mindset?

It will wear you out faster than the work ever will.

So maybe the real question is this:

What kind of worker are you… and are you okay with it?

And if you’re not…

What needs to shift?

Not for the job.

Not for the team.

For you.

Because at the end of the day…

how you show up at work should not cost you more than it gives you.
