Everyone Thinks They’re Neurodivergent?

Recently, I listened to a man who identified as AuDHD (Autistic and ADHD) express frustration with what he sees happening online.

He said he was tired of neurotypical people saying they think they are neurodivergent.

That statement stopped me in my tracks.

Not because I immediately agreed or disagreed.

Because it made me curious.

Why are so many people asking that question these days?

Years ago, most people never discussed ADHD, autism, executive functioning, sensory issues, masking, or neurodivergence.

Today, the conversation is everywhere.

Some people feel relieved because they finally understand themselves.

Some feel frustrated because they believe serious conditions are being reduced to social media trends.

Others are simply exploring and trying to understand how their minds work.

It made me wonder:

Where is the line between self-awareness and self-diagnosis?

Can people recognize traits in themselves without claiming a diagnosis?

Why do some people feel validated by these conversations while others feel dismissed by them?

And perhaps the biggest question of all:

Do we spend too much time trying to find labels, or are we simply trying to understand ourselves better?

“What interests me isn’t the label itself. What interests me is how differently people think, learn, communicate, organize, and move through the world.”

Let’s Talk

Do you think increased awareness is helping people understand themselves?

Or do you think we’ve become too quick to assign labels?

I’d love to hear your thoughts.
