Tuesday A Taste of Flava

I am sitting here in my tower and yes, you could say it’s a dark and gloomy morning… but it still feels good.

Yesterday, I had a talk with myself and decided to push myself to do some of my physical therapy exercises, just not as many repetitions. The first set went well, so later in the afternoon I tried a different group of exercises. Again, I kept the repetitions lower, and I did well.

Sometimes I get so caught up in being disabled that I forget I can still work toward improvement. Does that make sense?

I realized my pain level had gone down, but my strength level was still low. So I put on some music and sang along (and no, I cannot sing!) while doing my physical therapy exercises.

I combined exercises from when I first started physical therapy two years ago with some of the exercises from a few months ago. I was very mindful not to do anything that I knew would trigger my right hip.

This morning, I’m proud of myself. I have a little muscle soreness, but it’s different from my normal pain. It feels like my muscles were actually working. So I’ve decided to take today off and repeat the same routine tomorrow. I think every other day may be the right pace for me.

Over the past couple of years, I have really gotten to know myself and my body. I pay attention now. I understand my limitations better, but I also understand my potential. I am much more aware of my “why.”

So here I am, sitting in my tower, preparing to start my workday. Outside, it’s dark and gloomy in Seattle, but inside I’m smiling because, today, I feel good.

Sometimes progress isn’t measured by doing more. Sometimes it’s measured by listening to your body, respecting it, and discovering that you are still moving forward.

Blessings,

Lady Flava
