Let’s talk about something real for a minute…
A lot of us are sitting all day.
Whether it’s for work…
working from home…
or just how our lifestyle has shifted over time…
We are sitting more than we ever have before.
And I’m starting to really feel and understand something…
Our bodies were not designed to stay still that long.
The more I pay attention to my own body, the more I realize how important it is to move.
Not perfectly… not intensely…
but intentionally.
While Sitting… You Can Still Move
Even if you’re at your desk, on the phone, or working at your computer…
you can add purposeful movement right where you are.
Try things like:
Toe taps or heel lifts under your desk
Rolling your shoulders back and down
Gentle neck stretches (side to side, slow and easy)
Seated marches—lifting one knee at a time
Ankle circles to keep blood flowing
Sitting up tall, then relaxing… repeating to engage your core
These small movements may seem simple…
but they wake your body up.
But If You Can… Get Up
If possible, try to stand up and move every hour—even if it’s just for a minute or two.
Better yet… if your schedule allows:
Walk around your space
Stretch your arms overhead
Do a few gentle squats or sit-to-stands
Step outside for fresh air
Walk while you’re on a call
Research even shows that a 5-minute walk every 30 minutes can make a big difference in your energy, blood flow, and overall health.
But let’s be real…
Even 1 minute of movement is better than none.
What Happens When We Sit Too Long?
This part right here made me pause…
Sitting all day can:
Slow down your metabolism
Raise blood sugar and blood pressure
Increase fatigue and brain fog
Cause tight hips, back pain, and muscle stiffness
Put pressure on your spine
Increase the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and even blood clots
And the part that really got me…
It can lead to early wear and tear on your spine.
That right there made me say… okay, we need to do better.
Let’s Keep This Simple
This isn’t about being perfect.
It’s about being aware.
It’s about saying:
“Let me check in with my body for a second.”
“Let me move a little.”
“Let me not stay stuck.”
Because those small moments of movement throughout your day?
They add up.
They support your body…
your mind…
and your long-term health.
A Gentle Reminder
You don’t have to overhaul your whole day.
Just start with this:
Move a little…
a few times a day…
on purpose.
Your body will thank you for it.
And I’m right here learning this with you.
