RealTalk|Bringing Value

Monday Real Talk

“When Value Isn’t Felt”

Yesterday was an interesting day…

I didn’t really do much.

I napped.

Laid in bed quietly.

Played a game on my phone.

Scrolled TikTok.

Nothing stood out.

Nothing grabbed me.

But something stayed with me…

that quiet kind of unsettled feeling that doesn’t go away.

I saw a video about Yuri Kochiyama and Malcolm X…

and I smiled, because I remember already telling that story.

It reminded me how certain things stay with us because they mean something.

And that’s when my mind shifted…

I started thinking about what it really means to bring value into someone’s life.

Not the kind you announce.

Not the kind you post about.

The kind people feel.

Because here’s the truth—

You can be around someone and still feel drained.

You can care about someone and still feel unsettled.

You can want the best for someone and still recognize… something is off.

And that doesn’t make you wrong.

It makes you aware.

Value isn’t about money.

It’s not about status.

It’s not about saying the right things.

It’s about what your presence consistently brings into a space.

Peace or tension.

Growth or stagnation.

Support or emotional weight.

People feel that… even when nothing is being said out loud.

So let me ask this… honestly—

What value do you bring into the lives of others?

And just as important…

What value are the people in your inner circle bringing into yours?

Because there has to be a healthy give and take.

Not perfectly balanced every day…

but over time, it should feel like both people are contributing something that makes life better… not heavier.

I see this clearly in my own life.

At work, I know one of my strengths—

I can use my voice to bring calm to patients.

Even when they’re overwhelmed, confused, or frustrated…

I know how to meet them where they are and help settle the moment.

That’s value.

Not because I say it is…

but because it’s felt.

And that’s how it works in every area of life.

You don’t have to be everything.

But you should be something good in the lives you’re connected to.

This isn’t about judging anyone.

It’s about being honest enough to ask the question.

Because sometimes the most real clarity doesn’t come in loud moments…

It comes on quiet days…

when you’re doing nothing…

and something in you won’t settle.

So maybe sit with this—

When people are around you… what do they feel?

And when you leave people… what do they carry with them?

Because value isn’t what we say.

It’s what people experience.

Have you ever told someone… after time and time again of being indirectly affected by their choices…

when they asked you for a favor…

you wanted to say yes…

but instead you said,

“No… I don’t trust you.”

I have.

And it’s an unsettling feeling.

But sometimes it’s necessary…

when their words and their presence no longer bring value.
