ATasteOfFlava|Today Is a Win For My Body

A Taste of Flava

Awareness Is Powerful

This morning I am counting a small victory.

For the past few years, I have been taking acetaminophen and ibuprofen to help manage the pain from radiculopathy and arthritis in my hips. Along the way, I also learned that arthritis is present in my spine as well. Recently, there have been some minor concerns about my kidneys, which made me stop and think about the long-term effects of the medications I have relied on for relief.

When I was recently prescribed Naproxen, I decided that I wanted to see if I could begin managing with only Tylenol again. Not because I am against medication, but because I believe it is important to pay attention to what our bodies are telling us and make thoughtful decisions about our care.

Arthritis runs on both sides of my family. It is part of my genetic story. I always knew there was a good chance it would eventually affect me. What I did not realize was how much it would impact my life this early in my aging journey.

Our bodies are a precious gift.

The more we understand our family genetics, our health history, and our personal risk factors, the better prepared we are to care for ourselves as we age. Awareness gives us the opportunity to make adjustments, ask questions, and create habits that support our long-term well-being.

Today, I consider it a win.

I slept well.

When I got up during the night and again this morning, I only needed my cane to help stabilize my walking.

I made it through yesterday without taking the Naproxen.

One day at a time.

My goal today is simple. I want to do a few easy chores around my tower and continue listening to what my body needs.

Awareness is powerful. Realistic care for our bodies is necessary if we want to create the best aging experience possible, especially for those of us living with health challenges.

I wish you a healthy and happy life.
