What Determines Our Pain Tolerance?
Today I talked with a patient who is hoping to receive one more injection from Dr. D before having surgery with Dr. AJ
After our conversation, I found myself wondering…
Why do some people seem to tolerate pain better than others?
Is it genetics?
Is it our brain?
Is it our nerves?
Does sleep make a difference?
Can stress increase pain?
Does chronic pain actually change how our body processes pain?
The more I learn about the human body, the more fascinated I become.
Before my own health journey, I probably would have thought pain was simply pain.
Now I’m learning that our brain, nervous system, muscles, inflammation, hormones, sleep, and even our emotions all play a role in how we experience pain.
That also reminds me of something important…
We should be careful not to judge another person’s pain.
What feels manageable to one person may feel overwhelming to another.
Pain is personal.
As many of you know, I’ve been on my own healing journey for quite some time. The more I learn, the more questions I have—and I love that.
I am not a medical professional. I simply enjoy researching, learning, and sharing what I’m discovering along the way.
Who knew that at 66 years old I’d become so fascinated by how the human body works?
