🌻 The New COVID Vaccine: Who Needs It & Why It Matters (2025–2026 Update)
Health & Wellness with Flava
I’ve lived through a lot of seasons in this lifetime…
and one thing age has taught me is this:
your health is your responsibility — not something you wait for someone else to manage.
COVID may not be on the news every day anymore,
but it didn’t disappear.
It simply became another virus we need to stay ahead of, especially if we’re 65 and older.
So let’s talk about this new COVID vaccine —what’s changed, who should get it, and why it matters.
I pulled the details directly from the CDC, so this is clean, fact-based, no-drama information.
🌼 So… Who Should Get the New Vaccine?
1. Adults 65+ — YES. This is strongly recommended.
The CDC is VERY clear about this:
If you are 65 or older, you should get vaccinated.
Why?
Because our immune systems change with age, and the risk of severe COVID remains higher for us — even if we “feel fine.”
2. Adults 6 months–64 years — It’s an individual choice.
For this age group, it depends on:
health conditions risk factors where you work who you live with
But the CDC emphasizes:
If you have a higher risk for severe COVID, the benefits are clearly in your favor.
This includes:
diabetes asthma obesity heart disease compromised immune systems chronic illnesses pregnancy living/working in congregate settings healthcare workers
In other words:
if your body is already fighting something or your job puts you around a lot of people, the vaccine is worth considering.
🌻 Key Vaccine Updates (Simple & Straight)
A lot changed for 2025–2026, so here’s the quick version:
🟡 Ages 6 months–4 years: Moderna only.
Pfizer is no longer authorized for this age group.
🟡 Ages 5–11 years: Pfizer OR Moderna.
Just one dose needed — even if they had vaccines before.
🟡 Ages 12–64: Moderna, Pfizer, or Novavax.
All approved.
Novavax is one-and-done for the initial shot.
🟡 Ages 65+: All options available — but you need TWO doses this season.
The first dose is now The second dose is 6 months later (minimum of 2–3 months, depending on the brand)
This two-dose plan gives us stronger protection, because our immune response changes as we age.
🌼 A Quick Note on Risk & “Self-Attestation”
The CDC says you do not need:
proof of conditions medical letter insurance verification
If you say you are at higher risk,
that is enough to receive the vaccine.
No one is allowed to turn you away.
🌻 Why This Still Matters
I’m not here to tell anyone what to do —but I am here to say this:
I have watched too many people my age suffer from preventable things.
And after everything our generation has lived through, we deserve protection and peace.
For me?
I believe in taking the steps that give my body its best chance.
I’ve lived long enough to know:
prevention is easier than recovery.
If you’re 65+, the CDC recommendation is clear for a reason.
