When Constipation Makes You Feel Under the Weather

Opening Story

This morning I woke up feeling okay.

Not great, but okay. I started my workday from my tower, looking out the window like I always do. The crows were back in the cedar tree, Ghini was talking to the birds, and I had my oatmeal and hot water.

Then somewhere mid-morning my body started whispering.

First it was nausea.

Then a headache.

Then that overall “ugh… something is not right” feeling.

At first I thought maybe I just needed a break. I ended up laying down for what I thought would be a short rest.

Two hours later… I woke up. 😱

Turns out my body had something else going on.

The Connection I’ve Learned

Over the years I’ve learned something about my body.

When I get constipated, I don’t just feel uncomfortable.

I end up feeling sick.

For me it looks like:

nausea headache back pain fatigue that overall under the weather feeling

And it’s not just in my head.

Medical information explains that when waste moves too slowly through the colon, pressure builds in the digestive system. That pressure can trigger nausea, headaches, bloating, and even fatigue.

Basically… your body is saying:

“Hey… something needs to move along here.”

Real Talk Moment

Midday my friend called to check in.

I told her I felt terrible and thought it might be constipation.

Her medical advice?

“Just poop a log and you’ll feel better.”

I laughed so hard.

But honestly… she might be right. 🤣

Why It Happens

When the digestive system slows down:

• waste sits longer in the colon

• pressure builds in the abdomen

• gas and toxins can create nausea

• digestion slows even more

The result?

You feel tired, headachy, bloated, and just plain miserable.

Many people don’t realize constipation can affect your whole body, not just your stomach.

Gentle Things That Help

When my body starts sending those signals, I know it’s time to reset.

Things that help include:

• drinking more water

• eating fiber-rich foods

• light movement like walking

• balanced meals with protein and vegetables

• limiting heavy fried foods

Sometimes it’s simply about listening to what your body is trying to tell you.

Final Thoughts

Our bodies are always communicating with us.

Today mine said:

“Slow down. Reset. Something needs attention.”

So I rested, hydrated, finished my workday, and gave myself a little grace.

Because the truth is…

If you’re feeling under the weather, sometimes the answer isn’t complicated.

Sometimes your body just needs a little help getting things moving again.

And if you have a friend like mine…

You might even get the most honest medical advice of the day.
