What strategies do you use to cope with negative feelings?

WordPress Prompt
Processing… Understanding… Letting Go
Sometimes life hands us situations that don’t feel good while we’re living through them.
Our first reaction is usually emotional.
We replay conversations.
We question decisions.
We wonder why people behave the way they do.
But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized something important.
Before reacting, I need to process.
Processing means stepping back and looking at the situation from more than just my own feelings in the moment.
What actually happened?
Why did it happen?
What role did I play?
What might the other person’s perspective be?
Understanding the why—both from my perspective and from the perspective of others—can sometimes shift how I see things completely.
It doesn’t always mean I agree with the outcome.
But it helps me understand it.
And understanding brings something powerful with it.
Peace.
Once I understand the situation better, I try to set a new intention for myself.
Not to carry resentment.
Not to keep replaying the same story in my mind.
But to shift how I react moving forward.
Sometimes the healthiest thing we can do is let go.
Let go of the need to control the outcome.
Let go of the need to be right.
Let go of carrying something that no longer belongs to us.
I’m still learning how to do this.
I’m still a work in progress.
But I can feel the shift happening little by little.
And that, in itself, feels like progress.
