Mind • Body • Spirit
This morning, I woke up and something felt different.
Not perfect.
Not pain-free.
But not heavy either.
My body wasn’t fighting me… it was just… there.
I took a hot shower, did my bed exercises, then sat and did a few chair movements. Nothing intense… just enough to say, I see you.
And for the first time in a while, I realized…
Self-care isn’t something I do… it’s something my body reflects back to me.
The Truth About Self-Care
We hear “self-care” and think:
spa days, time off, doing something nice.
But real self-care?
It shows up in how your body feels when nobody’s watching.
It shows up in:
how you wake up
how you move
how your mind responds to stress
how your spirit settles instead of spirals
Mind — What You Carry Mentally
When your mind is overloaded, your body knows.
You feel it in:
tension in your shoulders
shallow breathing
irritability
mental exhaustion before the day even starts
But when you start shifting your mind:
letting go of what isn’t yours
not over-carrying people and problems
giving yourself permission to not fix everything
Your body responds.
You breathe deeper.
You feel lighter.
You don’t wake up already tired.
Body — How You Physically Support Yourself
Self-care in the body isn’t about going hard…
It’s about consistency and kindness.
Today for me, that looked like:
hot water a warm shower
gentle movement (bed + chair exercises)
not forcing strength that isn’t fully there yet
And guess what?
My body didn’t push back.
It cooperated.
That’s how you know you’re in alignment.
Spirit — The Quiet Part We Ignore
This is the part people skip… but it’s the part that changes everything.
Spirit is:
your peace
your connection to God
your sense of “I’m okay, even when things aren’t perfect”
When your spirit is off, your body feels unsettled.
But when you:
pray
sit in stillness
express gratitude
allow yourself to just be
Your nervous system calms down.
And your body follows.
What I Noticed Today
Something happened this morning that would’ve triggered me before…
Staffing changes. Call-outs. Delays.
And I felt… nothing.
Not in a numb way.
In a peaceful, “that’s not mine to carry” way.
And right then, I knew…
My self-care is working.
Because it showed up in how I felt, not just what I did.
Closing Reflection
Self-care isn’t loud.
It’s not always visible.
But your body will always tell the truth.
So if you want to know if your self-care is working…
Ask yourself:
How do I feel when I wake up?
How does my body respond during the day?
Am I carrying things that don’t belong to me?
Because when your mind, body, and spirit align…
You may not feel perfect…
But you will feel at peace in your own body.
And that?
That’s the kind of wellness that lasts.
Take a moment today…
Check in with your mind.
Be gentle with your body.
Protect your peace in your spirit.
