Thursday Real Talk
Why People Don’t Want To Heal
Let’s be real for a minute…
Not everybody wants to heal.
And it’s not because they’re lazy.
It’s not because they don’t know better.
It’s not even because they enjoy being in pain.
Sometimes…
Pain feels safer than healing.
That’s the part people don’t talk about.
Healing Sounds Good… Until It Gets Real
We all say we want peace.
We all say we want to move forward.
But healing?
Healing asks you to:
face what hurt you
sit with emotions you’ve been avoiding
let go of identities you’ve been carrying for years
And that’s not easy.
Because for some people…
Their pain became their identity.
When Pain Becomes “Who You Are”
If you’ve been:
rejected
abandoned
betrayed
humiliated
treated unfairly
…long enough, those wounds don’t just hurt you…
They start to define you.
You learn how to survive through them:
the people pleaser
the strong one the one who doesn’t trust anybody
the one who always expects the worst
So when healing comes along?
It feels like:
“Who am I without this?”
And that’s scary.
Familiar Pain Feels Safer Than the Unknown
Even toxic patterns can feel comfortable when they’re familiar.
You know how to move in pain.
You know how to protect yourself there.
But healing?
That’s unknown territory.
And the mind will choose familiar pain over unfamiliar peace…
every single time—until you become aware.
Healing Feels Like Vulnerability
Healing requires opening up.
And for someone who’s been hurt deeply?
Vulnerability feels dangerous.
So instead, people:
avoid
distract
shut down
stay busy
stay guarded
Not because they don’t care…
But because they’re protecting themselves the only way they know how.
Some People Think Healing Erases Their Story
This one is deep…
Some people feel like:
“If I heal… then what happened to me didn’t matter.”
So they hold onto the pain as proof.
Proof that it was real.
Proof that it hurt.
Proof that they survived.
But healing doesn erase your story…
It gives you your life back.
The Truth About Healing
Healing is not quick.
Healing is not pretty.
Healing is not linear.
It’s:
two steps forward,
one step back
feeling strong one day and
heavy the next learning…
unlearning… relearning
And a lot of people?
They get tired before they get through it.
So Why Don’t People Heal?
Because healing asks for:
honesty
patience
support
courage
And not everyone has access to those things right away.
But Here’s the Real Talk…
Just because healing is hard…
Doesn’t mean staying stuck is easier.
It just feels that way in the moment.
Closing
If this is you…
Be gentle with yourself.
You’re not broken.
You’re not weak.
You’re not behind.
You’re just at a place where your mind is trying to protect you.
But at some point…
You have to decide:
Do I want to stay comfortable… or do I want to be free?
Because healing isn’t about becoming someone new…
It’s about finally meeting yourself without the pain leading the way.
