Tuesday Did You Know | Cinco de Mayo
Today is Cinco de Mayo.
Now let me be real…
I’m not out here planning anything big, no parties, no margarita lineup…
but it’s one of those days you notice—especially living in places like Seattle and Vegas.
You feel it in the air.
Restaurants get a little louder.
People lean into the food, the music, the culture.
And I’m going to say this clearly—
I absolutely love Mexican food. 🌮
No hesitation there.
But beyond the food and the vibe, there’s a story behind today that a lot of people either don’t know… or get wrong.
Cinco de Mayo is not Mexican Independence Day.
That’s September 16.
What today actually represents is something different—
a moment where a smaller, less equipped Mexican army stood up and defeated a much larger French force in the Battle of Puebla in 1862.
That’s not just a history fact…
that’s a story about resilience.
About standing your ground when everything says you shouldn’t win.
And I think that’s why it resonates here in the U.S. the way it does.
It’s grown into a broader celebration of Mexican culture—
the food, the music, the pride, the presence.
Now for me…
I’m not turning today into a big event.
But I will acknowledge it.
I will appreciate the culture.
And yes… I might enjoy some good food 😁
Because sometimes it’s not about going all out.
It’s about understanding what you’re part of—even in a small way.
Different day…
but moments like this remind you there’s always a deeper story underneath the surface.
Happy Cinco de Mayo
