The Sunflower Theory
I absolutely love this since sunflowers are a part of my brand.
I recently came across a video from Jay Shetty talking about what he calls the āSunflower Theory,ā and honestly⦠it stayed with me.
Most people know that sunflowers naturally turn toward the sun.
But according to this theory, when the sunlight disappears and darkness comes⦠sunflowers turn toward each other.
That part touched me.
Because life is not always sunshine.
Sometimes people go through:
loss
exhaustion
uncertainty
sickness
heartbreak
stress or simply seasons where they feel emotionally tired
And the Sunflower Theory suggests something beautiful:
Real connection is not just about enjoying the bright days together.
It is about becoming light for each other during dark days.
That is powerful to me.
One part of the theory says:
āGive two sunflowers, not one.ā
Because when one flower can no longer find the sun⦠the other flower becomes support, comfort, warmth, and companionship.
Whew. š»
That made me stop and think.
Especially in a world where so many people are chasing perfection, constant happiness, or surface-level connections.
Real love.
Real friendship.
Real support.
That shows up differently.
Sometimes it looks like:
checking on someone
quietly sitting beside someone in silence
listening
staying
encouraging or simply helping someone make it through a hard season
Not because life is perfectā¦
but because connection matters.
I think that is why sunflowers have always spoken to my spirit.
They are bright and beautiful, yes.
But they also symbolize:
warmth
resilience
loyalty
hope and turning toward light
And sometimes⦠turning toward each other.
Honestly, I think we all need people in our lives who know how to become light when life feels heavy.
Not loud people.
Not performative people.
Just genuine people.
The kind that stay when the skies are gray.
Thatās the kind of energy I value.
