Friday Health & Wellness
Dear Flava,
This week I got a lesson in what many patients experience every day.
After having my appointment canceled for the second time, I finally learned that my primary care doctor had left the clinic. The frustrating part wasn’t that he left. Physicians change practices, retire, and move on. The frustrating part was not being told.
I’ve been with this doctor since January 2024. He has helped me navigate my health challenges from the very beginning. When you build that kind of relationship, finding out through a cancellation message feels disappointing.
At the same time, I am still waiting for insurance authorization for an MRI that will help determine the next steps in treating my hip pain, spine issues, or both. Waiting for answers can feel exhausting when you’re living with pain every day.
As someone who works in healthcare, I understand the processes behind the scenes. As a patient, I now understand the emotions that come with them.
Have you ever had a doctor leave without being told?
Have you dealt with appointments being canceled, long waits for insurance authorization, or delays in getting the care you need?
Let’s talk about it at Dear Flava.
