I love my coffee, you already know.

But before the ritual, I give my body something simple: a mug of hot water. No fanfare. No hype. Just warmth first, caffeine later. It sets my day up quieter, kinder, and more in tune with me.

Why hot water first?

Because your body’s been fasting all night. It’s dehydrated, cool, and a little sleepy. Warm water says, “Good morning, let’s wake up gently.” Not a jolt—an invitation.

Rehydrates after sleep. Warm water hits different—it’s soothing and easy to sip, so I actually finish the mug.

Warms the system. Gentle heat helps your body “come online,” especially digestion.

Think: comfort over chaos. Gets things moving. Warmth can nudge regularity without drama. We’re grown—this matters.

Calms the nervous system. Slow sips + steady breath = less morning tension, more intention.

Clears the throat & chest. That morning dryness? Warm water softens it so the voice—and the day—flow easier.

What it’s not

It’s not a miracle detox. It’s not a cure-all.

It’s a small, respectful habit. A “choose me first” moment before the world starts pulling.

How I do it (simple + doable)

Heat: Warm–hot, not scalding (think cozy bath temperature, not boiling).

Amount: 8–12 oz in a favorite mug. Pace: Slow sips for 5–10 minutes. Breathe with it.

Then coffee: Give it 10–15 minutes before that first delicious cup.

Optional add-ins (when I want a little extra)

Lemon slice for brightness.

Fresh ginger for warmth in the colder months.

Pinch of sea salt if I’m extra parched (just a pinch).
