Warm First: Regulating Your Body Before the World Starts Blowing
It was 40° this morning.
But it felt like 27°.
The wind was cutting through the trees outside my tower window, gusting like it had something to prove. The evergreen was swaying. The sky was shifting. Seattle doing what Seattle does.
And instead of rushing into the day, I did something simple.
I chose warmth first.
Hot water in my leopard tumble.
Oatmeal soaking slowly in my black cup.
Light on. Desk calm. Body still waking up.
No drama. No sugar spike. No chaos scrolling.
Just warm.
Here’s the thing most people don’t think about:
Cold weather tightens muscles.
Wind and pressure changes can stress the nervous system.
Heavy calls, hard conversations, emotional energy — that lingers in the body longer than we admit.
So before I let the world start blowing, I regulate.
Warm water helps circulation and digestion ease into motion.
Oatmeal gives slow, steady fuel — no blood sugar roller coaster.
Routine signals safety to the brain.
That’s nervous system care.
Health & Wellness isn’t always big workouts or expensive supplements.
Sometimes it’s quiet strategy stacking:
✔️ Warm liquid
✔️ Slow fuel
✔️ Calm lighting
✔️ Intentional start
✔️ Gratitude instead of replaying stress
When the wind is gusting at 30 mph outside, I make sure my inside is steady.
You don’t have to fight every element.
You just have to prepare your body to handle it.
Start warm.
Start steady.
Start regulated.
The rest of the day will follow.
