Finding Self-Care in the View Outside My Tower

As you know, I love working from home, sitting in my tower, sipping on coffee and answering the phones for close to fifteen surgeons.

My tower has become my little workspace where I can focus, listen carefully to patients, and do my job well.

But you also know something else about me…

I’m big on self-care and setting daily intentions.

There is power in setting the tone for your day.

Over time, something unexpected has become part of my self-care routine.

The view outside my tower window.

Throughout the day the sky is always changing. Seattle skies can go from gray clouds, to rain, to sunshine, and sometimes even hail in the same afternoon.

But what I’ve really fallen in love with lately are the birds and squirrels that gather on the electrical wires and the trees outside my window.

They come and go throughout the day like they’re holding their own little meetings.

When I’m on a stressful call, all I have to do is glance out the window, sip my coffee, and watch the nature that thrives right outside my space.

In that moment I’m reminded that the world keeps moving in its own rhythm.

It’s grounding.

It’s peaceful.

And I’m starting to realize…

This is self-care too.

Sometimes the smallest things can shift our energy and bring us back to center.

Do you have something like that?

Something simple that helps deflect a challenging moment and grounds you with just a glance?

Maybe it’s a window view.

Maybe it’s a tree outside your office.

Maybe it’s music, a plant on your desk, or stepping outside for fresh air.

I think sometimes I’ve taken my tower view for granted.

But lately I’ve been appreciating it more.

I’ve even started giving the birds names.

So far I’ve named one crow Poe.

I’m sure more names will come as time goes by.

Because when you slow down enough to notice the little things…

You start to realize they were part of your peace all along.
