Glamour vs. Survival: What Vegas Really Taught Me
Vegas looks like money.
Lights.
Luxury.
Experiences people save up for.
A place where everything feels elevated the moment you walk in.
That’s what you see.
Then
I didn’t just visit Vegas… I lived in it.
I saw how the city actually moves.
Not from the outside looking in—but from being inside the rhythm of it.
Those beautiful resorts?
They don’t run on glamour.
They run on people.
the housekeepers
the front
desk staff
the servers
the maintenance crews
the performers
the ones making sure your stay feels seamless
People working long shifts, often for minimum or near-minimum wages, relying on tips, relying on consistency.
Working hard to create an experience they don’t always get to live themselves.
The Shift
And then COVID hit.
Everything stopped.
The lights were still there… but the life behind them paused.
Hotels shut down.
Shows went quiet.
Tourists disappeared.
And just like that…
Thousands and thousands of people were laid off.
People who depended on:
steady shifts
daily tips
consistent bookings
Gone.
No transition.
No warning that matched the impact.
What I Saw Clearly
That’s when it really hit me.
Vegas isn’t built on luxury…
It’s built on a system.
And when that system stops?
So does the income.
So does the stability.
So does everything people were depending on.
The Truth Behind the Image
Not everyone living in a glamorous place is living a glamorous life.
Some are surviving inside of it.
Working hard.
Making it look easy.
Holding it together week by week.
And unless you’ve lived there…
You don’t really see it.
Now
That experience changed me.
It changed how I look at:
work
money
stability
lifestyle
I stopped being impressed by what looks good…
and started paying attention to what actually holds you up.
Now I value:
consistency
structure
having my own space
building something that doesn’t disappear when the system pauses
Closing
Vegas showed me the lights.
But more importantly…
It showed me what’s behind them.
And once you see that?
You don’t move the same anymore.
