ASipOfFlava|Healing In My Tower

A Sip of Flava – Monday 🌻

I’ve come a long way from where I was two years ago, when my disability first came on.

Back then, life shifted hard.

No insurance yet.

Painful to walk and get around.

Taking the bus.

Missing work.

Losing a coworker who was only two years older than me.

Physical therapy.

Injections in my spine.

Injections in my hips.

Walking with a cane.

Pelvic floor therapy.

Working from home.

Returning to work.

So many changes at work.

Then back to working from home again while trying to get approval for a permanent work-from-home accommodation.

That kind of change does not happen lightly.

And trauma does not always happen overnight. So, it is not going to go away overnight.

I returned from Vegas carrying trauma that I had to work through. At the same time, I was learning more about how my body has held trauma over the years, along with the reality that arthritis runs on both sides of my family.

So I came to understand something important:

My healing had to start from the inside out.

Once I truly understood that, I began to heal in every way.

That is why I have stayed to myself in my tower.

My tower is my peace.

I have everything I need upstairs.

And from that space, I started building a routine that helps me heal with intention.

My daily rhythm includes:

Bed exercises

Chair exercises

Sit-to-stand movements throughout the day

Walking my whole living space in my tower several times a day

Trying to go downstairs at least every other day

I am working on my muscles now.

I spent so much time mentally dealing with my pain that, unfortunately, I allowed my muscles to become deconditioned and weak. So now, part of my healing is rebuilding strength—step by step, movement by movement.

I share this story, and I share what I do in my blogs, because I am learning something deeper:

I do have control over my mind.

Step by step.

Day by day.

I am healing.

I am becoming a greater version of myself.

And you too, can set yourself up to become a greater version of yourself.

You are an absolutely amazing person.

And you deserve to experience the best version of yourself.

We can do this together.
