The Power of Castor Oil: A Personal Journey

Let me share something personal.

When I was living in Las Vegas during the pandemic, I was diagnosed with a lump in my left breast.

Surgery was scheduled… then canceled due to COVID.
When it was finally rescheduled, I was told I needed to pay $3,000 upfront—no payment plan.

So… no surgery.

The biopsy came back benign, but I was told there was still a 25% chance it could grow or turn into cancer.

And I remember sitting with that information thinking…

What am I supposed to do now?

I’ve always leaned toward holistic approaches to health and wellness—learning, exploring, and being open to natural support for the body.

Around that time, I kept seeing conversations about natural remedies, and my youngest daughter connected with an herbalist.

That’s when I started my own quiet journey.

I began using castor oil topically, along with drinking herbal teas. Nothing extreme. Just consistent, intentional care.

I stayed with that routine for about three years.

In May of 2023, I moved back home.
By November, I had insurance again and went in for a full breast exam, mammogram, and ultrasound.

They could still see the marker that had been placed in my breast…

…but they had difficulty finding the lump.

Because it had shrunk significantly.

Now let me be clear…

I’m not saying castor oil is a cure.
I’m not giving medical advice.

What I am sharing is my experience—and the reminder that our bodies respond to how we care for them over time.

Castor oil, derived from the Ricinus communis plant, has been used for generations.

It contains ricinoleic acid, which is known for:

  • anti-inflammatory properties
  • antimicrobial support
  • deep moisturizing benefits

It’s often used for:

  • skin hydration and elasticity
  • joint and muscle support
  • castor oil packs for circulation and lymphatic flow
  • occasional use for constipation (with medical guidance)

But here’s the real takeaway for me…

It wasn’t just the castor oil.

It was:

  • consistency
  • paying attention to my body
  • being open to different approaches
  • and not giving up when things didn’t go the traditional way

I’ll be honest…

I had forgotten about castor oil until recently—when I saw a woman whose skin looked incredible, and she shared that it was part of her routine.

And I thought to myself…

How did I forget something that supported me through such a time?

Health and wellness isn’t always about one solution.

Sometimes it’s about:

  • what you learn
  • what you try
  • what you stay consistent with
  • and how you support your body along the way

If you explore castor oil, keep it simple:

  • choose 100% pure, cold-pressed, hexane-free
  • do a patch test first
  • and always talk to your healthcare provider, especially for internal use

This isn’t about replacing medical care.

It’s about remembering that there are also supportive, natural practices that have been around long before us.

And sometimes…

they’re worth revisiting.
