“When Eating ‘Healthy’ Isn’t Enough”
This week… my body did something new.
Out of nowhere, I started having hunger pains.
Not the “I could eat” kind…
the kind that sits in your stomach and doesn’t let you ignore it.
That’s not normal for me.
So I paid attention.
Let me tell you what I actually ate
After physical therapy, I came home and had:
Cheese
Carrots
Grapes
Strawberries
Yogurt with chia seeds
And in my mind?
That was a good, healthy plate.
Light. Clean. Thoughtful.
So when the hunger still showed up later…
I had to pause and ask myself:
What is my body really asking for right now?
Here’s what I realized
Sometimes eating healthy…
is not the same as eating what your body needs in that moment.
Because what I ate?
It was nourishment.
But it wasn’t recovery fuel.
Let’s talk about the difference
What I had gave me:
natural sugars (fruit)
fiber (carrots, chia seeds)
a little protein and fat (cheese, yogurt)
But after physical therapy?
My body wasn’t just looking for light nourishment.
It was in repair mode.
What physical therapy is really doing
Even if it doesn’t look intense…
My body right now is:
opening tight hips
rebuilding muscle strength
adjusting to new movement
healing inflammation
That kind of work burns energy differently.
It’s quiet work… but it’s real work.
So my body said: “That wasn’t enough.”
Not in a harsh way.
Just honest.
“That was good… but I need more to keep up with what you’re asking me to do.”
What was missing
Not junk food. Not more snacks.
Just more substance.
A stronger protein source
Something grounding like toast, rice, or potatoes
A meal that sticks, not just something that passes through
What I’m learning in real time
I didn’t do anything wrong.
I just under-fueled for the level of healing my body is doing right now.
And that’s a different kind of awareness.
Closing Thought
Sometimes your body doesn’t need “cleaner.”
It needs more support.
More fuel.
More intention.
More listening.
Because when your body changes its pattern…
It’s not being difficult.
It’s being specific.
And I’ve learned this week:
Even when I think I’m doing everything right…
my body will still tell me the truth.
Have you ever had this experience?
And if so… what did you do?
