This is my opinion….back in the day when I was coming up, relationships were valued more, it was safe to play outside, you didn’t know too many people who died of cancer or committed suicide….mental illness wasn’t something that was so normal. Parents were parents and not their child’s friend…we knew what right and wrong was, it was important to spell correctly and write with pen and paper…a definition of a word was clear and not up for interpretation. Friends with benefits existed but was not the norm or talked about so freely. Kid were not allowed in the same room as grown folk and we were allowed to be children and not worry about grown up problems. Most families in my community went to church. I knew who were my friends and left the rest alone. I started working at the age of 12 at a local flower shop and babysat and paid for much of my own special things like records, movies, an outfit or shoes. I had daily chores and weekend chores and they had to be done before I could go outside to hang out. I had to ask permission to watch a TV show or use the rotary phone which one eventually became a push button. Funny thing is, sometimes I thought my life was so hard back in the day…
Life is so complicated now days and there is so much destruction, people are always looking for the next best thing and fail to commit to anything or anybody and in the end it is so hard to help others to see their blessings and to recognize your own blessings.
Yes, I miss the back in the day, days!
