How To Protect Yourself
In so many ways, we can find ourselves in vulnerable situations without even seeing them coming.
Health and wellness are very important to me, and I enjoy sharing tips from this old lady’s vault. As I was scrolling through articles this week, it suddenly dawned on me that we have talked about nutrition, hydration, exercise, stress management, and self-care, but we have never really talked about how to protect ourselves.
The truth is, staying healthy isn’t just about taking care of our bodies. It is also about protecting our personal safety, our finances, our identity, and our peace of mind.
Google Information:
Protecting yourself involves building layers of security across your physical, digital, and financial life. One of the most important tools you can develop is situational awareness. Pay attention to your surroundings, trust your instincts, and avoid becoming distracted when you are out in public.
Physical & Personal Safety
• Stay aware of your surroundings when walking, shopping, or traveling.
• If someone makes you uncomfortable, trust your instincts and create distance.
• Let family or friends know where you are going when traveling alone.
• Keep emergency contacts easily accessible.
• Avoid advertising that you live alone or share too much personal information with strangers.
• If walking at night, stay in well-lit, populated areas whenever possible.
Digital & Online Safety
• Use strong, unique passwords for all accounts.
• Enable multi-factor authentication whenever available.
• Be cautious when clicking links in emails, texts, or social media messages.
• Keep phones, tablets, and computers updated with the latest security software.
• Protect your home Wi-Fi with a strong password.
Financial & Identity Protection
• Monitor your bank and credit card statements regularly.
• Review your credit reports for suspicious activity.
• Never give personal information to unexpected callers, texters, or email senders.
• Consider freezing your credit if you are concerned about identity theft.
• Be cautious of scams that create urgency and pressure you to act immediately.
From Lady Flava’s Vault
As I have gotten older, I have become much more aware of my surroundings. I pay attention to who is around me. I lock my doors. I let people know where I am going. I do not answer calls from numbers I do not recognize unless they leave a message.
Most importantly, I trust my instincts.
If something feels off, I pay attention.
We spend so much time talking about healthy eating and exercise, but protecting ourselves is also a form of self-care. Safety, security, and peace of mind all contribute to our overall wellness.
Sometimes the healthiest thing we can do is simply stay aware, stay prepared, and stay safe.
What are some ways you protect yourself, your family, or your personal information?
