When the Weather Changes… My Body Knows First
Today Seattle looked beautiful one minute and stormy the next.
Rain. Wind. Cold air. Blue sky peeking through heavy clouds.
And my body felt every bit of it.
People sometimes look at the weather app and only see the number:
58 degrees.
But what my body felt was:
46 degrees with heavy wind, pressure shifts, damp air, and aching joints.
There is a difference.
Growing up, I remember my Grandma Matsu saying:
“Itai Itai.”
Pain pain.
Before weather apps, radar maps, and hourly forecasts… our elders already knew when the weather was changing because their bodies told them first.
And honestly?
The older I get, the more I understand exactly what she meant.
Today the wind gusts in Seattle were strong enough to shake the trees outside my tower window. The crows were bracing themselves on the wires and tree branches while the rain moved in and out all day.
Meanwhile my hips, lower back, glutes, and legs were reacting to every shift.
People who live with arthritis, inflammation, nerve pain, old injuries, chronic pain, or joint issues understand this deeply.
Sometimes the weather changes before the sky fully changes.
The body feels:
- stiffness,
- aching,
- heaviness,
- pressure,
- fatigue,
- headaches,
- swelling,
- weakness,
- soreness,
- instability.
Some people think it sounds strange until it happens to them.
But weather affects more than our plans.
For many people, it affects the body itself.
Today reminded me that listening to your body is not weakness.
It is awareness.
There is a reason elders paid attention to the sky, the wind, the rain, and the seasons changing.
The body remembers.
And sometimes…
the body warns us before the storm even arrives.

Does your body talk to you when the weather shifts to wind, cold, rain, snow, or barometric pressure changes?
Let’s talk about it 🤔
